Arsene Wenger Confirms Europa League Squad For Ostersunds Clash
Arsenal will return to action in the Europa League clash this Thursday against Swede side Ostersunds and Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will have his first team in action for the competition.
Arsenal came through the group stage as leaders and they have been paired wth Swedish side Ostersunds for a place in the final 16.
Arsene Wenger executed the group stage of the competition with a squad that is more or less his second team, which saw players like Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Maitland Niles nailed regular starting berth.
The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and their slump in the League means they are highly likely going to end up outside the top four places on the Premier League log. Now, Arsenal’s best bet at winning Champions League qualification is through the Europa Cup, like Manchester United did last season.
Ahead of the Europa League game, Wenger faced pressmen and he revealed that he will be playing with his A-squad.
“I would have anyway gone for it, especially as we have no game between the two matches,” said the Frenchman.
“I will play the normal team because it is one of the opportunities we have especially because we don’t play in the FA Cup.
“There is no reason why I should rest players.”
Alexandre Lacazette played badly against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend but he is set for a start in the Europa League game.
Aubameyang is Cup tied as Dortmund are also in the competition and this leave Lacazette as the only choice upfront for the Gunners.
Meanwhile, new boy Mkhitaryan will be allowed to feature.
