Confirmed: Chelsea Set To Agree Move Of 22 Year Old Ace

Jordan Houghton will continue on loan at Doncaster Rovers until the end of the term, it has been established.

The Chelsea midfielder’s first loan spell stopped on January 3. Rovers had expected to sign the 22-year-old on a perpetual contract during this transfer window but have pushed for a loan deal as Ben Whiteman’s sudden return to Sheffield United.

“We did agree a deal with Chelsea to secure it permanently but we couldn’t agree personal expressions,” Rovers coach Darren Ferguson told the media yesterday.

Houghton, whose deal at Chelsea finishes in the summer, said Rovers’ official website: “The main point for me was seeing it done right and early in this window as I required to get qualified for a big match in the FA Cup.

“There have been negotiations over the past few periods and that slowly built up to making it across the line and clicking on a contract which changed everyone.”

He added: “One of the key aims to get it sorted so soon was because we’re doing really well at the minute and I didn’t want to miss out on that, we want to keep the momentum going as long as possible.”
